[January 2007]
The Interactive Logbook Project is now closed. However the Interactive Logbook software is available to download here or from SourceForge and is available under a BSD Open Source Licence.
The Interactive Logbook is a learner's scrapbook and (e)portfolio of learning that can also assist the Personal Development Planning (PDP). To understand the ideas behind the Interactive Logbook , view the case study and watch the video at elearning.ac.uk. The software shown on this video was used as a proof of concept. Not all aspects were robust enough to feature in the download distributed here.
The project was funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) under the Distributed e-Learning Programme. Winning two rounds of funding, the project took place in two phases. The first phase built on a previous Masters of Engineering Group Project to create a working and stable system, with a pluggable architecture and under open source licence. The second phase piloted the IL by embedding it in various authentic learning situations so that an evaluation could take place. In this phase, further usability issues were addressed.
The final report from the second phase describes the pilots and the findings of the evaluation undertaken. A peer-reviewed paper, Pilkington et al. (1996), outlines the issues relating to openness and readiness for PDP, as discovered through this project. The paper is available for download.
The software may be downloaded from the links on the right of the page, or by going to the SourceForge site. It is provided as-is and does not come with any warranty or support.
This site is now closed for content updates and the team is engaged in new projects. For general enquiries about the Centre for Learning, Innovation and Collaboration, home of the IL Project, email info@clic.bham.ac.uk .
